The story of artist Maurizio Cattelan’s $120,000 banana duct-taped to the wall—and the man who pulled it down and ate it—nearly broke the internet during Art Basel earlier this month.

Indeed, the annual art show that’s taken place in Miami Beach every year since 2002 in known for its out-there exhibitions, along with boundary-pushing paintings, installations and more.

More than just an event, Art Basel is a cultural movement, turning Miami into a city that thrives as an art destination year round. Vibe Agency was on the ground scoping out the scene this year—here’s what inspired us most.

art pieceSCOPE Miami Beach returned to its pavilion on Ocean drive and 8th Street for the 19th edition this year, featuring works from 134 contemporary exhibitors.

We were inspired by the juxtaposition and vibrant color of this statue and accompanying paintings.

We’re all about interactive art, which took center stage at Spectrum Miami in the Wynwood Arts District this year. Can you spot the hidden message in this clever piece? (Hint: Start at the top right corner and read backward.)

Ludicrous or not, the piece is a perfect example of how doing something obscure can be highly engaging. We’re already thinking of ways we can apply this concept to events next year.

WynwoodWynwood inspired us again in a major way with colorful new installations during Art Basel. Did you know that Wynwood Walls doubles as an event venue, with spaces from galleries to gardens available for private events?

DinerThe historic 11th Street Diner in South Beach was transformed into performance art for a dinner by Bottega Veneta, serving up treats rather unexpected for a fashion company: milkshakes and fries included.
