The Month Experience Proved Its Worth
Bi-Monthly Edition
This week put a number on how long a decision can follow you.
INFORMS and Rotary International confirmed that political friction is now pushing major conventions out of the United States for years, not quarters, while three thousand miles east, Thailand's incentive planners told buyers they are already full into 2027.
Your next site selection now carries a second column next to cost and capacity: how long a market stays open to you. Meanwhile, George P. Johnson gave the industry a proof of impact framework built before the event ships rather than after it closes, and The Expo Group's purchase of toddstreet showed buyers no longer want compliance and creativity on two invoices.
Twenty minutes, and your Q4 sourcing gets a sharper map.

What is moving the market
Some cities will not host a meeting again until 2031
SKIFT MEETINGS · ANDREA DOYLE · 23 SEPTEMBER 2026
INFORMS saw its Canadian attendance drop 45% between 2024 and 2025 and watched its 2026 San Francisco meeting continue that withdrawal, while shipping costs for its own materials rose from $8,700 to $23,000. Rotary International pulled its mandatory 2030 to 2032 training bids out of the United States entirely and moved its 2027 convention from Honolulu to Dubai, then to Barcelona. Both organizations describe the shift as a geopolitical risk calculation, not a one-year boycott, with visa policy and political rhetoric named as the deciding factors.

A measurement system built before your event ships, not after it closes
GPJ, VIA GLOBENEWSWIRE AND CONFERENCE NEWS · 22 SEPTEMBER 2026
George P. Johnson launched its Experience Intelligence System after two years of testing across thousands of events, tracking audience participation, brand sentiment, and business impact from a single dashboard. Rather than a report delivered once the last guest leaves, the framework sets benchmarks during creative development and measures against them as the event runs. CEO Fiona Bruder called it the standardized proof of impact CMOs need to validate live activations, and the system is rolling out across GPJ's full client roster now.

Where reward travel is heading
Thailand's incentive planners are already booked through 2027
TTGMICE · ANNE SOMANAS · 23 SEPTEMBER 2026
Thailand's incentive sector expects at least 6 billion baht ($182.3 million) in revenue from Indian groups after visa-free entry was restored on 14 July, reversing a May policy that had frozen bookings. Ambassador City Jomtien's JIE Center reports two to three Indian incentive groups booking every month through March 2027, and Thailand Incentive and Convention Association president Prachoom Tantiprasertsuk says Chinese direct-sales companies are also returning in large numbers. A September sales mission connected roughly 80 Thai sellers with 200 buyers per city in Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Industry leaders in Bangkok put a number on why your room still matters
TTGMICE · 23 SEPTEMBER 2026
Opening IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau president Supawan Teerarat told delegates that digital connection is making human connection more valuable, not less, while panelists including Rajeev Kohli of Creative Travel India argued that trust and even minor physical contact trigger responses no screen replicates. The panel's recommendation was specific: let AI absorb the administrative load so delegates spend their time on relationships, not logistics, and judge success by resonance and repeat relationships rather than attendance counts.

06 EDITOR'S PICK
The map just redrew itself, and not in the US's favor
Two stories, six time zones apart, explain the same shift.
INFORMS lost 45% of its Canadian attendance in a year, and Rotary International pulled a full decade of training bids out of the United States, moving its 2027 convention from Honolulu to Dubai, then to Barcelona (Skift Meetings, 23 September 2026).
The same week, Thailand's incentive planners told buyers they are already full into 2027, powered by a restored visa policy and a returning Chinese corporate market (TTGmice, 23 September 2026).
Neither story is really about politics or visas. Both are about how fast a market can lose years of business over a decision made somewhere else, and how fast another market can win it back with one policy reversal and a sales mission.
If your 2027 to 2031 calendar assumes the destinations that worked last time will still be open, this is the week to test that assumption against a risk column, not just a cost column.
The organizations moving fastest right now treat geography as a decision they revisit every quarter, not one they set once and forget.

07 Strategic Takeaways for Clients
Where to put your attention this month
Add a geopolitical risk column to your next RFP
INFORMS lost 45% of its Canadian attendance in a year; treat destination stability as a line item, not an assumption.
Call a Thai DMC this quarter if 2027 incentive travel is on your plan
Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, and Krabi are already booking two to three groups a month; the dates left get thinner every week you wait.
Build your measurement plan into the creative brief, not the post-event report
Ask your next agency partner what they will measure before day one, following GPJ's lead, not just what they report after doors close.
Scout Santiago and Prague before your incentive shortlist catches up
Real traveler demand named both destinations this week, ahead of most premium program lists.
Ask your vendors if they can hold both the compliance detail and the creative idea
The Expo Group's acquisition of Toddstreet signals your buyers stopped paying for two invoices to tell one story.
Have your AI-autonomy answer ready before CES 2027 puts the question on stage
Waymo's co-CEO opens the show in January; your clients will ask you the same question the following week.
The Room is Yours.
The Audience is Yours.
This is the read that helps you win them.
